Nissan Navara Three Stars on Euro NCAP

Nissan’s Navara was awarded a much improved and more class competitive score of three stars in adult occupant protection in a reassessment test conducted by the European New Car Assessment Programme following a modification to the pickup truck’s airbag control unit software.

The Navara achieved three out of five stars for adult occupant protection, but earned a maximum score in the side impact test. It also scored four stars out of five for child occupant protection which puts it up there with the best in that category.

In pedestrian protection, the vehicle scored two out of four stars.

In the previous test conducted by Euro NCAP whose results were released on February 26, the Navara’s rating in adult occupant protection was affected by the delayed deployment of the front airbags.

Following the first test, Nissan immediately developed a modification to the software that controls the airbags to correct the problem which was limited to model year 2008 Navaras built between May and December 2007.

In December 2007, the counter- measure was put into production of the Navara to ensure the airbags performed exactly according to design specifications.

That same month, Nissan also launched a service campaign inviting affected Navara owners to go to their dealers to have the updated software applied to their vehicles.

The campaign was later extended to cover Navaras produced since launch in 2005 in order to offer maximum reassurance to all Navara customers.

Nissan Navara Airbag Failure

I'm a user of Nissan Navara Pick up. I acquire the unit on January 2008. But unfortunately, on May 30, 2008 a car crash accident occur. I learned during the collision, the airbag has no response. I mark 60kph to 80kph overtaking a single motorcycle but a mishap in opposite direction when suddenly at a fraction of seconds collided with single motorcycle estimated speed at 100kph that night to my navara.

After one(1) month, I made a consult to my friend*, a Filipino (a Supervisor-Quality Control for 8 years from a Car Manufacturing in Japan) and let him see the pictures I've taken from a Wreck Vehicle and he was surprised when I told him that the airbag didn't response during the impact. He immediately forwarded the images of wreck vehicle to a friend from japan.

Further, I'm so glad that the insurance company responded immediately though it takes a couple of months to complete my claim for O.D. Now, the Unicar Davao located
at Bajada, Davao City declare a Total Loss(TL) of my unit. But I'm not satisfied with the result. Since in my own evaluation, experience in vehicle and justification of my friend* it was considered as Defective Unit. Now, I realized that I risk my safety and life inside the vehicle because of very promising safety feature (airbag) but didn't response.

Now, I would like to appeal to Nissan company for Replacement of New Vehicle without any compensation.
